A day at McCauleys Beach
4.01.10 # 20:59 # Dog Beaches # 7 Comments
To begin the year “Sydney-Style” we went down south to the beaches there. While Sydney only has a few doggie beaches and they aren’t big you can find a few awesome places down south approximately a 1 hours drive from Sydney center and right “behind” the Royal National Park in the Wollongong area. There are huge empty beaches where we doggies are allowed. And I guess the reason why they are empty is that most of the hoomans with hooman puppies stick to the beaches with lifesavers – those are crowded! The current at McCauleys beach was pretty strong and my hoomans kept watching me closely and didn’t let me swim out too far. So if you go there with your dogs check out the surf before you get all excited with the whole ball thing! Yes – I’m talking to you here! Hoomans! We doggies can’t judge it and will run after whatever you throw for us…
Here is the MAP so that you can find McCauleys Beach in Thirroul. If you drive from Sydney it is pretty much straight down Princess Highway and then left
We went there with my friend Chloie and her hoomans and it was a rather spontaneous decision my hoomans made in the morning. The sky looked like rain and it was so humid that the fish that lives in our backyard could have come out of his pond – well, I think it could have… But, how exiting, we went anyway. To make a long story short in finally start posting the pictures – it was raining during our drive there, pouring down with rain on our way back but we had a patch of blue sky right above the beach we decided to go to for almost 3 hours!!! See – that is what happens to good doggies ![]()
- Hello gorgeous! Wanna go to the beach with me?!
- Mom – she said she will follow our car! Let’s go!
- Hmmm – the weather doesn’t look to good. But don’t you dare to go back, she is still behind us!
- Ok, let’s go to the next beach. Maybe the sun is out there…
- Such a beauty!
- Even if she is much smaller when wet. ;)
- The OCEAN!!!! Here we come!
- Must follow master!
- Nah – let’s stay… The weather will change… I can feel it!
- That’s me having a good dig with the impressive sky in the background!
- Oh – hello, who are you old man?! :)
- Pretty – even with wet fur.
- Digging close to the hoomans beach stuff is just more fun then anywhere else. Why don’t they see it?!
- Me, watching the surf!
- Me busy digging…
- Well, when I’m digging even a good looking girl has a hard time getting my attention!
- In the water with daddy! I told you he is fun when he is here!
- They did that to me for their own entertainment – fine, I keep swimming even when I’m out of the water. But in case you haven’t noticed: IT IS STILL THERE!
- I’m a good swimmer.
- Nessie alarm!!!! :)
- ok, I get it. Time to run!
- And the way home…
Oh and you DON’T want to go to the Scarborough Hotel on Lawrence Hargrave Drive on your way back to Sydney as they don’t allow dogs ANYWHERE an their premisses. So picture that: it was pouring down with rain and cold, the hoomans parked the driving machines and we ran to sit all on our own outside the hotel half in the rain because the cover wasn’t big enough… That didn’t really matter as we were soaked anyway. Chloies mom went inside to get the menu and got told that we have to leave… And no, they didn’t put us in the car or tied us to a tree to go inside for lunch. Back to the car it was and mom was pissed, I tell you!!

Wow… that was a real good time you had there at the beach. I love to swim too and play with the wave. Wish we could go to the beach together.
It was rude of the restaurant to tell off their potential customers in such manners… the least they could do was extend a bit of hospitality under such circumstances. I guess it’s their loss at the end of the day.

Water dogs! Eeesh! My dorky brother does that too. He starts his paddling as soon as he sees any kind of water at all. Sometimes even in my water bowl.
Slobbers,
Mango
Hi Teal’c!
Looks like you had a great time at the beach! Wish I was there with you!

Hello Teal’c,
Those were some ominous clouds at the beach you went to… I see you are a very brave dog. My hoomans would have ran the other way, they are such chickens! Plus I don’t like the water (ok, I’ve never seen an ocean but I won’t even go into a lake — now give me a human shower and I’ll jump right in!) By the way, your lady friend was a cutie.
As for that hotel you guys stopped at I say the heck with them…take your money elsewhere where you are welcomed. I just went to my 1st hotel this past weekend and mom will post hopefully soon all about that trip. Well, I’m off to sleepy land now.
AARF Kasha the Dainty Great Dane
WTF? My Mom would be pissed too. Stupid hotel guys!
My little bro Dago had his first experience with the ocean on New Year. He is a real boy – not scared of anything! He is now 3.5 month old and almost as big as I am!
Funny, our humoons love to go to the beach with us, too
Too bad that we’ll never be able to play together, good looking Teal’C ;(

Hiya everyone!!! Yep – that restaurant didn’t get our hoomans money… It is so stupid! We could understand it if the weather was nice and 50 people were sitting outside and kids playing (ok, we would kind of understand it…) but in the rain?! With no one out there, just us?!?! That’s petty… Unfortunately there actually is a law in NSW that doesn’t allow dogs near restaurants but most of them ignore it… And the chance that someone would have popped in to check that day was pretty slim!
Anyway – Hero/Thor/Shiloh… IT WOULD BE PAWSOME IF WE COULD SEE EACH OTHER! SIGH! Stupid world! And maybe I could even get Dennis and Kasha into the water!!!
There is no need to be scared!
And Mango – I guess your brother even fits into your water bowl!
Kasha – my parents were considering running as well but then my mom got carried away – give her a camera and that is it!
