Not sure why hoomans always have to be like, well, like they are… “We gonna take time off in between Christmas and New Years!” (they didn’t), “We will take you to the beach all the time.” (must have been another dog), “We are going to the beach tomorrow.” (maybe the one from across the road?) ,”We are going to the beach soon!” (That was definitely me – I heard that quite a few times)

Ok – I’ll give them some credit here. They took a lot more time to take me to exciting places in the past few weeks but still to the big beach, just twice.

I have written about that beautiful doggy beach a few times already. HERE and HERE. We still haven’t figured out the name of the beach but it is near Wollongong and if you put “Bellambi Recreation Area” into google maps it is the beach right there.

Something makes me think that one of the reasons my hoomans took me there was to finally test my new Surf Dog Australia beach collar… What can I say? I got lots of compliments from the dogs I said hello to on our walk and from their people. Everyone we met lives close to the beach so they have even more issues with those smelly collars then I have. After all I’m a big city dog most of the time. The collar served it’s purpose: no smell! I’m especially proud of the fact that it says “Surf Dog” on it. Makes me feel really cool.

PS from my person: The collar is really great when you take your dog to the beach a lot or even just once in a while. It actually doesn’t matter how often you go fabric collars smell after one time and metal ones get rusty. The Surf Dog one is solid rubber and I would say it will last us a lifetime. No smell and it looks flash. I only think I was a little optimistic with the size as I always imagine my dog bigger than he is. (hmmmmmm)

It comes in :

S – Fits neck size 24cm – 34cm. Width 2cm.
M – Fits neck size 35cm – 42 cm. Width 2.5cm
L – Fits neck size 43cm – 52 cm. Width 2.5cm
LW – Wide band. Fits neck size 43cm – 52cm. Width. 3cm.

I went for the LW and it really is meant for big dogs as it is quite heavy. Teal’c would have done just fine with a L and 2.5cm width.
Bottom line: we love it!

I got post on Tuesday! My new collar from Surf Dog Australia arrived! That was quick and I must say it looks very, very flash on me. Only problem is that my hoomans are fully caught up in that “working” thing again and we haven’t been back to the beach yet to test it. They always say they work so much that I can eat organic bones – I doubt very much that they are that expensive…

Beach collar from Surf Dog Australia

As you all know – I’m a real Aussie beach dog! There is nothing better than jumping into the surf, swimming, rolling in the sand and washing it all off just to roll again. Unfortunately that is rather tough on my collars. My hooman prefers those stainless steal collars for our day to day walks but they don’t last long under beachy conditions. Have a look at the pics! All rusty. Admittedly the poor thing went through 1 month of everyday beach abuse and then ended up in a box in our humid climate. So they are actually great under normal conditions and with fresh water but still not the best choice for the beach. And do you know what happens to fabric collars???? THEY START STINKING! Not just smell they do stink. The leaving-in-front-of-the-door kind of stench.

So there is the solution: a Stay Dry collar from Surf Dog Australia! They say on their page that they are completely waterproof so there’s nothing to get soggy, smelly and itchy. Mine hasn’t arrived yet but I have 3 weeks of fun ahead of me before my dad has to fly away again and I have been promised that there will be a lot of beach action – so bring it on! I’ll test it and will let you know my verdict. One thing I can say for sure already: it looks pretty flash!!!!! I have decided for the blue one as the summer sun turns my fur from shiny black to even shinier chocolate brown. Brown and blue is a nice combination, me thinks.

My day to day collars are usually as shiny as I am...

But not if you use them every day on the beach!

So that's going to be my new beach collar from Surf Dog Australia.

They also have those yellow doggy beach robes which my mum finds incredibly cute. Only my dad thinks it would make me look like a girl...

Toy testing: Tuffys Pet Toys

As always I’m on the quest of finding the ultimate indestructible dog toy. It’s kind of a fun quest because I get to chew things!

On the menu today: Tuffys Pet Toys
Apparently the toughest dog toy ever designed by a company that usually makes toys for zoo animals like lions. “Hmmmm” – my hooman thought, “let’s give that a go! I’m sure a lion is stronger than my little dog…” Hah – stronger they might be but maybe a little stupid from sitting in a cage?! So off we went to hunt one down. I was allowed to choose what I liked best and I went for the yellow Ultimate Gear Ring.

What can I say? It took me literally 5min to kill it. Precise attacks on the week spots… We do understand that it is no chew toy but I didn’t sit down to chew it. I did the damage after I fetched it during the short stops on the way back to my hooman. And even if I would have sat down with the only purpose of killing it for good I would have expected the 9 on the tuff-scale toy to last a little longer.
On the other hand – it’s not completely dead yet and my mum said at 20 bucks it was not too expensive. While it lasted I had heaps of fun with it and if it isn’t too windy it can be thrown nicely.

So what does that make out of 10?!
PRICE: OK if your dog is not as clever and obsessed as me
LASTAABILITY: 2 out of 10
FUN: 8 out of 10 (no good when windy)

We don’t want to judge things in general but speaking for a Staffy or any other dog that is obsessed with chewing it only got a 5 out of 10.

An if anyone has any suggestions what else I can try – I dare you!!! Slobbers Master T.

Daddy is more fun than mom!

It is hot in Sydney and my mom is not working from home today… So I’m all on my own with daddy. LOVE IT!!!!
7:00AM – I threw up in the bed room to get his attention and prevent him from sleeping in – WORKED
7:20AM – We went for a walk, it was already hot
8:00AM – looking at daddy with big eyes – got a chicken wing
8:05AM – same as above – worked again
8:30AM – started starring at him got one of those BIG bones! WOW
9:00AM – went to his study to do some more starring combined with panting and guess what?! He filled my little plastic-pool-thingy in the backyard with water!
9:30AM – playing in the pool running in and out of the house WET!!! (don’t want to be in my dads shoes when mom comes home)
10:00AM – 35 degrees HOT
10:05AM – did some staring and looking sad – didn’t work, daddy busy
10:30AM – 40 degrees
11:00AM – collapsed in my dad’s study
And now?! Waiting for the evening maybe we are going to the beach?!

Ahhhh – what a day it was! Look, I’m a good dog! A really good one. I would NEVER EVER make a mess like that. So there I was in my girlfriends backyard and she started taking that thing aparat. Believe me – I did everything I possibly could to stop her!!!! I mean – it was her pillow to sleep on and not the first one she killed and I overheard a conversation our humans had… Her human said that that is it. If she kills that one she will have to sleep on the ground. Poor thing!!! So yeah – I tried to talk her out of it.
But then she started to call me names like coward, wuss, boring and a few German things like Waschlappen (washrag) and Weichei (soft egg)… Her human is German as well you know… Anyway – me Teal’c the Great a wuss?! NEVER! So I helped and oh boy – it was fun!!!!!

You want to know what the best thing was?! We didn’t even get into trouble for it. Our humans where only laughing and taking pictures with their weird camera-mobile-phone thingys… So what does that mean for the future? In case Dash ever get’s a bed again we can give it another go because it is so amusing?! I’ll have a think about it…

Until then my human asks if anyone knows doggy beds that can withstand Staffy teeth?!

PS from Tealc’s mom: It is not that they have nothing else in the backyard! There are myriad toys, ropes, bones etc. … And lots of digging for the next 3 weeks then the place will get some landscaping

Brainy dog toys

Now that I have started reading other dogs blogs I came across lots of different toys for brainy dogs. Well – I don’t consider myself as the brightest canine in the kennel but I’m not stupid either. Now my mom found this thing on Parlances blog and made it for me. The original idea is from a German page called Spass mit Hund (click the little flag and you will get the English version of “Fun with your dog”)… So my human sat down and made that plastic bottle thing but I didn’t know what to do. I mean god gave me big teeth – why not use them? Instead of turning it around like Penny did in the video I had a good bite, more holes and voila – the treats came out. Oh well…

The one here is more at my liking! 2 big balls on a rather big rope! It’s not doing anything for the brainz but is good for da teeth It also is really cheep. At only 5 bucks at the Petbarn in Alexandria, it is something my mom is happy for me to destroy within minutes and that makes it even more fun. So – the balls die over a period of approximately 15 minutes and cause a lot of chaos in the backyard which my human always cleans up immediately saying something about me otherwise eating the small bits. As if I would!!!! But anyway the rope lasts for ages and it heaps of fun when my friend Dash is over. And she is at the moment so I gotta go back to the backyard entertaining her!!! SLOBBERS TEAL’C

I’m surprised by the amount of brain-games that are out there for dogs. For me having a dog was about having fun with, you know, easy games… Sticks, balls, ropes etc. … But looking at some of those alternite games they seem to be fun as well and I’ll certainly try some of them . Personally I think you can exaggerate the matter like those German guys HERE. But after all it was a competition for the best new toy for clever dogs. And the people competing were Germans. I wouldn’t have expected less!!

Perfect Big Dog Toy

My mom says I’m a small dog. I say I’m a big dog! At least I can chew like one!!!! Usually I destroy my toys in minutes especially the squeaky ones. (Which I nevertheless love!) But my mom finally found something, apparently from KONGS, that is great! I mean if you look at the pics you can see that I’ll eventually kill it but it takes quite a while and a lot of effort. The price for those balls is something around 18 bucks at the PETBARN in Alexandria but I guess you can get it in other stores as well. Mom just thinks it is a nice alternative to the KONG toys which are just as good but still destructible and quite a bit more expensive. Also I’m not entirely sure where the freshmint is coming in – I can’t taste or smell it…

As I said: almost indestructible.
