Happy Australia Day to all my Aussie friends! Traditionally on Australia Day the sun is shining and everyone is out and about for BBQ’s and beers. Preferably by the beach. Certainly that is how I like to celebrate it. But this year nothing like that will happen as it is raining, raining, raining Sure I’ll get my walk and unfortunately my shower on return only the chance of meeting other dogs in the park is very, very slim.
Nevertheless I hope that all of you enjoy the public holiday in one way or another. Slobbers Master T.

Australia Day (previously known as Anniversary Day, Foundation Day, and ANA Day)[1] is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, the date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.[2]

Although it was not known as Australia Day until over a century later, records of celebrations on 26 January date back to 1808, with the first official celebration of the formation of New South Wales held in 1818. It is presently an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia and is marked by the presentation of the Australian of the Year Awards on Australia Day Eve, announcement of the Honours List for the Order of Australia and addresses from the Governor-General and Prime Minister. With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation. Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia.[3]

The date is controversial to some Australians, particularly those of Indigenous heritage, leading to the use of alternate names, such as Invasion Day and Survival Day. Proposals have been made to change the date of Australia Day, but these have failed to gain widespread public support.

Itchy eyes or conjunctivitis

I’m not allowed to see my friends because I have this unpronounceable disease called “conjunctivitis” and I’m something called “contagious”. My eyes are all itchy and when I woke up this morning they didn’t look very pretty either. So my hooman rushed to the pharmacy. Yes, the one for people. Because a friend of her is a vet and she once told her that the stuff in the eyedrops is exactly the same for hoomans and dogs just the price tag is different. The doggy ones are a lot more expensive.

You do need to know if the conjunctivitis is caused by bacteria or by an allergy. It was quite obvious that I had the bacteria caused one because my BBF Max and Bessie were having the same symptoms yesterday. I guess lots of kisses and face licks didn’t help …

My hooman bought them and me “Chlorsig” in the Pharmacy. (Apparently in the Pharmacy she bought it yesterday it was $17.95 in the one she bought it today it was $7.95 hmmm?!) I have to use it every 4 hours for the first 2 days and then 4 times a day for 3 more days. After that it is really important to throw the bottle out as it doesn’t keep after opening!!!!

Really? Every 4 hours???

Conjunctivitis is the most common eye problem that occurs in dogs, according to Vet Info. Tissue, called conjunctiva, lines the eyelids and attaches to the eyeball near the cornea. Inflammation or infection of this tissue is conjunctivitis. The inflamed white of the eyeball may appear red or pink, which is why conjunctivitis is also called pink eye or red eye.
The causes of conjunctivitis include irritation caused by allergies and infections caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. Conjunctivitis may also be a symptom of a more serious condition, such as distemper, so evaluation by a veterinarian is important. Canine conjunctivitis symptoms vary, depending on the cause.

Inflammation and Swelling
Both allergies and infections cause inflammation and swelling of the conjunctiva, which leads to a severe redness of the eye. Also, the dog’s third eyelid swells and stays partially closed.

Squinting and Eye Rubbing
A dog with conjunctivitis squints its eyes. The dog may also rub the affected eye(s) with a paw or on carpet or furniture due to the pain.

Eye Discharge
Both allergies and infections can cause a discharge from the affected eye. The color and consistency of the discharge depend on the cause of the dog’s conjunctivitis. Allergies usually cause a thin, mostly colorless discharge. Infections tend to create a thick yellow or greenish pus that may cause the dog’s eyelids to stick together when the dog closes its eyes.

Day with Daddy!

So today I had the whole day alone with daddy. He called it a ‘blokes day’. No idea what he meant but it sounded like fun.

First we went for a walk and I was allowed to sniff EVERYTHING!

I also left a lot of messages for my friends…

Finally(!) we got to the P-E-T store! I love it there, I always get treats and so many good smells!

Just what do you expect me to do with that????

Ooooo BAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!!!

My two favourite things in the world. Balls and Banana Milk. Ok the Milk was Daddy’s but he told me not to tell anyone as Mummy gets very upset! SOmething about Christmas and too much food. Not sure that’s possible?

My new collar has arrived

I got post on Tuesday! My new collar from Surf Dog Australia arrived! That was quick and I must say it looks very, very flash on me. Only problem is that my hoomans are fully caught up in that “working” thing again and we haven’t been back to the beach yet to test it. They always say they work so much that I can eat organic bones – I doubt very much that they are that expensive…

Happy New Year to all my furry bloggie friends and their hoomans all over the world! I think we are amongst the first to say hello to the New Year except from my Kiwi friends.
Although we don’t really think it it a great idea to blow 6 million doller in the air for 15 minutes of Sydney fireworks we have to admit that is it a stunningly beautiful display every year! SYDNEY 2011-2012 FIREWORKS

We wish all of you all the best for the year ahead and should the prophecys come true and it is the last one: MAKE IT A GOOD ONE!!!!

Click HERE to see the “Belmont River” going down our street. Pretty impressive! Luckily I was there to supervise it all from my balcony. WOOF!

Tealc’s hooman here: Back home in Germany it rains too. But usually you can wait somewhere for it to stop and then go ahead without necessarily getting wet. Every now and then you might get caught in a downpour – maybe once every couple of years. Sydney is different. If it rains it rains, a lot. If you are lucky you can leave the house to walk the dog when the sky looks a little brighter but there is no guaranty you will get home dry. So I have surrendered to the weather. I accept the fact that I’ll get soaked once a day……. Last time the water was actually going down my legs into my gumboots.

YEAH, yaeh, yipp – it can’t get much better! I’m not entirely sure why hoomans get depressed when it rains a lot? If they would jump into puddles too the grumpiness might just disappear. Oh if they would only try……..

As mentioned HERE my favourite ever park in Sydney, Sydney Park is a big puddle at the moment and the wetlands have grown! It is amazing. My person would like me to add that if you like your dog nice and clean you should stay as far away from the park as possible until the rain stops for at least 4 weeks!

Every time it rains like there was no tomorrow down here my hooman has to think of that one Rio Reiser song: Arche B. Just for our German readers I’m afraid…

You know, I don’t see my daddy very often. Most of the time he works for my bones in farfaraway country… Somewhere called Singapore where they won’t allow my breed in. Thats why (or one of the reasons) why I’m mostly on my own with my mum… So my hoomans are ok with the situation most of the time but I think my mum gets really sad sometimes. I can feel things like that quite easily. I just have to look at her and can tell. Then I fulfil my duty as a puppy: I go over there, give her my biggest doggy grin, lick her face, wag my tail and make the world go round again. I have been told I’m really good at it. Mostly I can get the smile back in her face. But on Sunday I failed… And daddy failed too… Maybe that’s because he is always locked up in that computer-box!?

Anyway when we came home from our morning walk in the park on Monday there was that BIG bunch of flowers in front of our door. After my mum read the card she was certainly smiling again. Do you get that?? Flowers… Sure they are pretty but aren’t they otherwise useless? You can’t even eat them… I hope if I ever get upset about something my daddy buys me a big bone instead of flowers!!!!

Apparently we are having the wettest winter/July in 50 years!

“Almost 23mm of rain has been measured at Observatory Hill in central Sydney since 9am (AEST) on Friday. This has taken Sydney’s July total to 244mm, making it the wettest July since 1950, when 336mm was recorded. That was the wettest year since Bureau of Meteorology records began in 1858. The latest drenching means this month is now the 15th wettest July on record.”

Short: it just doesn’t stop raining. Not that I mind that much – I LOVE THE RAIN and the mud games that come with it. Rolling, sliding, jumping just getting really really dirty in general! I guess I can count myself lucky as my mum loves walking in the rain, enjoying a deserted park, too. Not the rolling in the mud though…

On Friday I had a play-date with my friend Bandit a Cairn Terrier puppy. Very funny little guy who always wears a black mask. We had a ball!!! My mum must have had a really good day too as she told me at the beginning of the walk: no rules today! NO RULES? Does that mean I can jump in the pond and chase the ducks?!?!?!?!? WOOF! YEAH!

But then the boot got filled with meat and bones.
Nope, not funny at all me thinks… But what can you do when you have 4 paws instead of two hands with thumbs? You just can’t stop your hoomans from posting things you would have rather forgotten about. BIG SIGH.

Tealc’s hooman: my apologies for the blurry pictures but he waited until I was driving and I kinda did the pics “freestyle” over my shoulder as there was nowhere to stop. And I do know I shouldn’t be driving and taking pictures but I just couldn’t resist. The whole attempt was too funny especially after I left him on his own in the car with the meat for 15min and he didn’t do anything.
