Cumberland State Forest
21.06.09 # 23:52 # Doggy parks in Sydney # No CommentI got some complaints that I haven’t written anything in ages – so here I am! I had lot’s to say but my mom was too busy lately to write it down for me.
Last weekend we tried a new walk – in the Cumberland State Forest. That is a 40 hectare oasis of green in the north-western suburbs of Sydney and approximately 30 min away from the CBD. (by car, on a good day!)

While you can’t take your puppies to the national parks in Australia, not even on the leash, you are allowed to bring them to the state forests. But again – only on the leash. That is very annoying as I would have loved to explore the surroundings a bit more. But anyway – I felt like “big city dog” experiences nature! So much to sniff! So many different smells! After 2h of walking – which means we had done all possible walks anyway, I was absolutely exhausted. I never thought that sniffing would ever knock me out like that. My parents found that somehow amusing
PAH!
Bottom line:
The Cumberland State Forest is quite nice but also quite small if you and your dog are experienced walkers. We went there on a Saturday and met neither people nor dogs – which was quite surprising as we thought more families would use the forrest on the weekend. Well – the weather wasn’t great but not too bad either.
I would say if you live close by it is worth a visit. If you live on the other end of the city I wouldn’t bother… My parents also complained that there were now “views”. I don’t really care about that as long as I have trees and sticks but it seems to matter to humans that’s why I mention it here.
