Little Bay (Sydney) – former doggie beach…

littlebaymapWe haven’t been to Little Bay in Sydney’s ähm – West?! for quite a while. There are a couple of reasons and one is that I, apparently, turn into a mad, overexcited dog as soon as I see a beach. So my mom doesn’t like to take to beaches when there are lots of dogs and people around. But we have been working on the issue and I’m much much better now. So she decided after Culburra Beach it was time for us to hit the Sydney doggie beaches again. Not on the weekend straight away but during the week on a beautiful but quiet day. Little bay seems to be a little secret, not many people are there. The area looks gorgeous and if it wasn’t for the lack of public transport and the distance to the city it would be a nice area to live. It is actually not too far away from the city. It takes us about 15min to get there if we don’t try during peak traffic… So not all bad I would say even if I don’t like being stuck in the car during summer. Sometimes even the aircon doesn’t make that much of a difference. Anyway – when we got there the circumstances had changed. Last year (as you can see on the google image) the right hand side of the beach was for us and the left hand side for people. This year?! NO DOGS AT ALL!!! :( I guess all those stupid humans who don’t have dogs but kids got there way because of their majority… PAH! Well, my mom being German and actually very respectful when it comes to things like that as she doesn’t want any trouble wanted to go back home.  That was before she met another guy just coming back from the beach with a huge Dogue de Bordeaux and he said that he didn’t care. As we went down there we realized that there are lot’s of people who didn’t care!!! I’m not encouraging you here to break the law and I guess if you get caught it will cost you a fortune but – oh boy – it was good!! We  also walked along the cliffs on each side – so much to discover and so much fun!!!! But you gotta be carefull – 4 paws are a lot to step into a Sea Urchin!!!

So how to get there?! You head towards the airport and then you go down Foreshore Road and Botany road towards Phillip Bay. Then follow the signs to Little Bay. The beach is right next to the “Coast Golf Coarse” and a huge retirement home. If you have a GPS you best put “Coast Hospital Road” in Little Bay in – that get’s you there or at least close. A friend reported today that a ranger caught him at Little Bay with his dog. He was let go with a warning but told “$300 fines on weekends”!!

Hi Mike! Thanks for letting us know. Any idea why it isn’t a doggy beach anymore?! :(
So does that mean it is kind of ok during the week but not on the weekends?! We wouldn’t go there on the weekend anyway – far too many unrelaxed humans…

  • Mike says:

Apparently it just takes one person to call and complain about dogs (whether they’re at the beach or not) and the rangers go out. The fact that a ranger was there on a Friday morning means that no day is safe.

  • Master Teal'c says:

:( well – then it is of the list I guess… I really don’t get it! Why do people have to be so **%&$§**!!! The beach was perfect – one side for humans other side for dogs = everyone happy. But there is always someone who has to complain… It makes me soooooooo angry!
