Snacktime!

IMG_9947

I don’t really want to but I have to – talk about dog food… I would rather write about things like beaches and my doggie friends than about nutrition. But on the other paw that is important as well and as far as I’m concerned I’m more than happy with my diet of fresh meat, bones, fruits and veggies… I don’t get those stupid smoked bones from the pet store but fresh ones and OH BOY – BIG ONES!!! Bones are great to keep the teeth clean and they are full minerals. From my point of view even more important – they keep my busy for a long time. Especially the already mentioned “BIG ONES”…

Today I have my girlfriend here and had to share. Not that I mind – she’s a cutie! ;)

Hi there! I have got a Staffie as well and live close to Sydney. I found you blog looking for doogie parks in the area… But I got a question to your last post – I usually feed bones in winter but in summer they get rather smelly after a while and I don’t thing eating them then is any good for my dog?! How do you keep them fresh?
    Cheers Chris

Hi Chris! You are right – they smell! But for me and my health that doesn’t matter. My digestive system is made for that kind of bacteria as dogs/wolfs would eat half rotten stuff as well. But I guess my mom will have me writing something about that in the near future anyway – so stay tuned! Nevertheless she takes those beautifully smelling bones in summer a lot quicker away from me as in winter… :( I’m only allowed to keep then for a couple of days… Say hello to your Staffie! Teal’c

Dog’s will eat just about anything. I think it’s like children, we’re so busy trying to protect the we forget that they’ve been doing this for thousands of years without us!

Yep – you are right! I have seen so many articles (well, my mom read them to me), mostly sponsored by commercial dog food companies, that say: never give your dog fresh bones! That can break their teeth… I think that is bullshit (excuse my choice of word) our teeth are there to be used… And preferable not on your shoes, sofa, outdoor furniture, fence or other things like that. As much as I enjoy chewing my Kongs and stuff – nothing is better than a big bone!!!!! ;) Teal’c
