Strange things in Sydney Park
5.11.09 # 17:36 # Dog parks/walks, Off leash Parks in Sydney # 3 CommentsYesterday we went to Sydney Park for walkies and there I had my first encounter with a very, very strange species. It was as a little smaller than my food bowl and had a rather long neck which disappeared underneath the food bowl when I got close. My human said straight away that I should be careful it can bite… Such a small head can bite?! I didn’t believe her… Nevertheless I was only allowed to have a quick smell from a save distance (I kept the length of the neck in mind) and my mom took a few pics. Oh and of course I wasn’t allowed to bark either as we didn’t want to scare it too much either! When I finally got my courage up to get closer she called my back. I really don’t get humans – the moment something becomes fun they want you to stop?!?! PAH! But I’m a good doggy. I walked away, sat down and waited for my mom to point that thing in the right direction, which apparently was the lake in the middle of the park. It was originally heading towards the airport and I guess disorientated… Then we watched it to get back into the water just to be sure that no other dogs can get close. I kind of got the feeling that my mom wasn’t concerned about the dogs… hmmmmm…

What the hell...?!

same on the other side...

there is just no head... but it was moving before!

maybe it does bite?!

alright then - lets go...

I'm such a good dog! Didn't even bark at it!!

Hi Teal’c – thanks for coming over to visit me and I’m so pleased that you have been enjoying my posts.
I don’t think you look that little at all!
My human thinks Staffies are one of the most loveliest breeds.
How cool – I have never met that thing you met in the park before! Do they just walk around wild in parks in Australia? How weird and amazing!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Was it a turtle or a tortoise? I made the mistake once and believe me tortoises don’t swim!
Hi Honey! Cool that you made it to my blog!!! When I saw all the comments you get I thought you might be toooooo busy… I’m fairly new in the blog-world so it always makes me happy if I get post. Especially from such a gorgeous girl as you are!!!!!!!
Just a bit shorter…
My humans loves Great Danes. My dad had a big black boy before he met my mom and her ex had a blue girl. They were talking of getting a Great Dane – well, and then I came along…
Yeah – that thing was extremely strange! It could hide it’s head… Just imagine! When you have chewed something you shouldn’t and you could do the same thing! I guess they are around. Even if it was the first time we saw one. Guess most of the time they are in the water…
That brings me to Alkalines post – my human didn’t put it the water! Just pointed it in the right direction.
We would say it was one of those Eastern Long-Necked Turtles (Scientific Name: Chelodina longicolli)
“At certain times of the year long-necks often wander in search of new homes. This often brings them in contact with roads and fatalities and injuries from motor vehicles are common. As long as there are no severe internal injuries, a cracked or broken shell may be repaired with artificial materials such as fibreglass before the animal is released back into the wild.”
So I hope we did a good thing!
